Cash Flow Forecasting for Business Growth
Challenge
Many business owners I worked with lacked clear visibility of their cash position, which made planning and decision-making difficult. Without a robust cash flow forecast businesses faced uncertainty about meeting obligations, managing supplier relationships and identifying strategic investment opportunities
Approach
I worked closely with each business to develop straightforward, bespoke cash flow forecasts tailored to their operations and cash patterns. This involved understanding their regular cash movements, seasonal variances and future plans, then building forecasting models that gave clarity month by month. I also supported business owners through training and webinars to help them interpret and use the forecasts with confidence.
Outcome
Clients gained clear visibility over their cash position, enabling them to plan with confidence and remove uncertainty from key financial decisions. Owners reported a stronger understanding of how cash moves through their business and felt equipped to anticipate challenges rather than react to them. One business owner noted that she “now has full visibility on the cash flow of my business for any given month,” after previously struggling with the concept. Another described working with me as “efficient, incredibly thorough and a breath of fresh air.”

Mentoring and Developing a Finance Team
The Jockey Club
Challenge
A 20-strong finance transaction team was responsible for supporting financial activity across 14 sites throughout England. Alongside delivering accurate, timely processing, there was a need to build capability, support progression and retain motivated, skilled people within the team.
Approach
As manager of the team for five years, I combined operational leadership with a strong mentoring focus. I supported individuals through regular one-to-one mentoring, encouraged professional development and coached several team members as they progressed through recognised accountancy qualifications. This created a supportive environment that balanced accountability with learning and confidence-building.
Outcome
The team consistently delivered reliable finance support across a complex, multi-site organisation. Several team members successfully achieved accountancy qualifications, progressed in confidence and took on increased responsibility. The mentoring-led approach strengthened capability, engagement and long-term retention within the team.
This experience shapes my mentoring work today — helping individuals grow in confidence and capability while delivering strong financial outcomes.

Enhancing Financial Visibility and Accountability
Challenge
At TeenTech, an educational charity, the leadership team needed stronger financial visibility and accountability to support strategic decisions and growth. The CEO and board lacked timely insight into project costs, monthly performance and overall financial position, which limited their ability to plan with confidence.
Approach
In my role as Finance Manager, I worked closely with the CEO and trustees to establish a suite of monthly financial reports including cash flow projections, management accounts and a comprehensive dashboard tailored to the board’s needs. I also oversaw event and project costings to ensure viability and alignment with organisational goals. This approach combined delivery of essential reporting with regular conversations to build understanding and confidence in the data.
Outcome
The leadership team gained reliable, timely financial insight, empowering them to make agile and informed strategic decisions. Monthly management information provided clarity on performance and cash flow, while accurate financial data strengthened funding applications and supported the charity’s sustainability. The CEO reflected that the board and executive benefited “enormously” from the work, highlighting improved planning, budgeting and confidence in financial analysis.
